Suffragettes advertising a major rally on Durdham Down in 1908 chalked ads on pavements & drove a wagonette around Bristol. Protesters with bells & tin whistles tried to silence the speakers but no one got the better of Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence (1867-1954). Her voice was heard.
