Freelancers & consultants:

You don't do your best work when you're stressed, overwhelmed or exhausted.

Take a day off, willya?

Friendly freelance reminder:

'It landed in my inbox' and 'it requires a response from me' are not equivalent conditions.

Friendly freelance reminder:

Clients will believe that you do A, B and C.

They won't believe that you do A, D, G, K, M, Q, T, W and Z. Not equally well, anyways.

It's easier to communicate - and excel at - fewer services.

If in doubt, go deep, not wide.

Cold, hard freelance truth:

There's no button you can push, no spell you can invoke, that will make good clients fall into your lap today.

There's only the steady, often unglamorous work of marketing and prospecting, months before the need becomes urgent.

This happened to me a *lot* when I first went solo. Curiously, the people who seemed most unhappy with their jobs had the most to say about my decision.

Gigs can go sideways for lots of reasons.

One measure of our integrity is how we respond when they do.

You can’t control how the client behaves. But you can control how you react and respond.

Choose the long view, take the high road.
