Trying is the first step success. Be not afraid of failure, it is not final.Try again, fail better. Learn and adjust. Try again, and continue to until you reach what you wanted. So many refuse to try because of a fear of failure. You want success, be ok with failure.

Good enough is the enemy of great. Good enough limits the belief that something needs to be better. Coaches should not accept good enough from themselves or their teams. Always strive to become the best you can. Don't allow yourself to be good enough.#coachingdevotionals

Successful teams are filled with people that do things that are different. They want success for others, they sacrifice of themselves, and they block out the unnecessary noise. They are worried about winning, not their personal rankings.#coachingdevotionals

"Comparison is the thief of joy." We all have our paths and our eventual destinations. What I accomplish or struggle with is different than other peoples. If someone else succeeds that doesn't mean I can't. My journey is my journey and I have to focus on it.#coachingdevotionals

Way too many people in athletics tell you what you want to hear. Those that truly care about your growth will tell you what you need to hear. Coaches want players to improve, to be their best and that will in turn, help the team become better as well. #Coachingdevotionals

After coaching for 25+ years, I love being just a dad. My job is to support, listen and IF they ask give advice. They have coaches and their job is correct them and coach them. My concerns are their body language, attitude and them being great teammates.#Coachingdevotionals

Everyone, coaches and players want success, but for so many the price is too high. Not the financial cost, people mindlessly spend money thinking that is the path. The real cost of success is work, effort, and focus. It is called sweat equity and it can't be bought or faked.

Body language screams what players don't say. Watching kids slumped on the bench, palms to the ceiling, and looking away from coaches when being coached, tells everyone what their focus is, themselves. The best teams have players that worry about the next play, not the last.

No one wants to see a picture of you in a gym supposedly working out with the caption "The grind never stops." They want to see results. Stop patting yourself on the back for doing something necessary for success. "No one cares about the labor pains, they want to see the baby."

Too many athletes mistake competing with playing hard. There is a distinct differenct. Competing means to attempt to win that play or possession and to do that every play or possession. Champions compete every play, because no one knows which play will change a game.

You can score 30 and play poorly and score 8 and play great. If you don't guard, rebound, take care of the ball, or be coachable, how can that be considered playing well. If the only measure of a good game is points, there are few players who play well. Do the little things.

Billy Donovan shares a lesson that changed how his players thought about winning. At Florida, he had a manager track how long the ball was in each player's hands during a game. He asked one of his starters: "How many minutes do you think you had the ball in your hands for the

It is amazing how many people are quick to criticize, but have not idea what goes into the process. The critics are also, unwilling to put themselves in the positions they criticize. If you haven't done the work, no one cares what you think.

Coaches build culture through consistent communication and accountability. Players deserve to know what is going on and why? Build your expectations and stay true to them. Great seasons are lost due to not holding true to these two items.

Toughest part of tournament basketball is in the finality. One tough night on either side of the ball and your season can come to an end. So the people who say this is a fun time of year, have never been through the grind of a season, only to have have 1 game determine success
