We adore the colours in these stunning Renaissance drawings! 😍🎨 These belong to a volume in the Soane collection known as the North Italian Album, which compiles designs for buildings, cityscapes, household objects and more, all dating from around 1500!

Soane is known for his harnessing of natural light, so it’s no surprise that some of the art he purchased reflects this fascination. Both Soane and Fuseli cut through darkness with shafts of light, whereas Soane and Turner both bathe their respective creations in a warm glow.

Introducing Soane and Modernism: Make It New (12 February - 18 May 2025) Our first exhibition of 2025 investigates Sir John Soane as a forerunner of architectural modernism and places his work in dialogue with celebrated modernists and those who share affinities with his work.

The Soane Youth Panel, inspired by our exhibition Soane & Modernism: Make it New, have created their unique intervention Make it You, which displays and reinterprets artworks from to highlight key thematic similarities and differences between Classicism and Modernism. #MakeItYou
