Moral of the first few days of the Alabama season: when you’re in turkeys, stay in turkeys. It can change from zero to hero very quickly.

This turkey wouldn’t answer me on a mouth call or slate, but things changed when I broke out my trumpet call. He cut me off and finally broke about 30 minutes later. The lesson learned is-be versed in different calls, you don’t know what will break them on a given morning.

Never talk about no-hitters in progress, or favorable long range weather forecasts during turkey season

Learn the bird, develop woodsmanship, and don’t use store bought shortcuts for success that won’t teach you a dang thing except how to pull the trigger
