Paiblesgarry, N Uist late morning was pretty stunning. Also a Skylark nesting by the track and a Gull-billed Tern at the mouth of Loch Paible (briefly).

Overwhelmed by requests once again so here it is - Early Sand Grass in all its glory on Baleshare. This beauty must have been all of 10 mm tall.

A cool northerly breeze didn't really inspire hope that today would be something special but when John Kemp rang to say he had a Gull-billed Tern at Orosay, S Uist that all changed. We (Martin Gillingham and I) arrived to find a happy John Kemp and 2 birds hawking the dune edge!

After scanning through 1,000's of Barnacle Geese throughout the winter in North Uist and 1,000's of migrant Barnacles as they stopped off in North Uist on their way north; a single Cackling Goose was with the last 15 Barnacle Geese left in North Uist this morning!

What stunning birds Black-tailed Godwits are. Quite a few resting and feeding up just now in Uist before they continue on to Iceland.

Still picking up new rings on the Barnacle Geese in North Uist. A03 is presumably just passing through but HNV I saw back in November in Knockintorran, N Uist; although not since. Shame the weather's so wild as ring reading in 40 mph is somewhat challenging!

Nice late afternoon ring reading Barnacle Geese in N Uist also produced a drake Ring-necked Duck before Martin Gillingham spotted this fine Red-breasted Goose in a large flock of Barnies adjacent to Callernish House. Presume Barnacle Goose EAP in the same flock also came from Islay?

The best of days are when you least expect them. A Yellowhammer in John Kemp's garden was a new bird for my Outer Hebs list whilst a couple of Swallows and Sand Martins in Daliburgh were new for the year. A new Lesser Scaup in South Uist on Loch Bee was a nice way to end the day.

A random stop on the way back down from Troodos, Cyprus today produced a day calling Cyprus Scops Owl. Amazing views of this beauty early afternoon and saved us some late evening / after-dark session(s)!

First full day on our Cyprus tour produced some great birds with pride of place going to the male Semi-collared Flycatcher; although the male Pallid Harrier and both Baillon's and Little Crake were pretty good too!

There's still space on our Machair in Bloom tour: 15th - 20th July. As well as some stunning and rare orchids there's a nice mix of alkaline and acidic specialities. Not just plants too with otters, short-eared owl, eagles and divers all normally seen.

Waders are one of my favourite bird orders; with so many stunning species. One my targets on the recent Northern India trip was Indian Courser and they didn't disappoint.
