The White House is one of the largest parks in Washington D.C. at approximately 82 acres (about the area of a large shopping mall). However, starting in the late 19th century, much of it was closed off to the public due to security concerns.

Today, the White House will see 85% of the #SolarEclipse2024 , but this isn't the first time the Executive Mansion has witnessed this phenomenon. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge and First Lady Grace Coolidge viewed a partial eclipse through treated glass on the South Lawn.
