Just had a student ask after class - do we all need to get new ideas? I went off about how yes, writing is *all about* finding new ideas, how he should be creative and form new thoughts through the writing process. Then he clarified that he'd said "do we need to get new IDs?"

Very worth reading, despite the fact that I disagree with the author's assessment of Anthony Doerr. Cloud Cuckoo Land may not have a precise and close attention to language, but it was fun goddamnit! Doerr is good at ambitious page-turners, and has a great sense of plot, pacing.

It really bothers me when a cheap docu-series about a serial killer uses jaunty pop music to be stylish. It also bothers me when they use ominous, scary music. I think if you're going to discuss real people who were murdered it should be done without a soundtrack.
