After a brutal spring here’s some some weather to work with!!! The staff had been working hard in very poor weather and our efforts are finally paying off. Here’s 3 green April 15, May 10 and Yesterday. Stay tuned as we move forward with the other temps! WestHillsGolf

Here’s a video of us finishing up our deep verticutting process on our greens. I’ve posted it on instagram as it allows for a more artsy-fartsy presentation. ⁦WestHillsGolf⁩ instagram.com/reel/Ctjt-3fs1…

I try to walk greens in the AM, check for bad plugs, dry areas, mower consistency, disease, insects and whatever variable might get thrown in there. I usually have a few balls in my cart so I’ll often drop a few and check the roll. I’m definitely a better booter than putter.

The constant rain this year has created some bizarre results. This spring popped up over night. Obviously we thought it was an irri leak, but the pumps are not running. Typical in the spring as the snow melts and the H2O tables are full, but not in August. WestHillsGolf

We’re trying a few new things this year. Some big “o” vertically bored down through the root zone and into the sub-drainage in the water egress points. We’re also tying the black Inca mats into the system. Keep that water moving!!! WestHillsGolf Lincoln Craig

This is a mouthful but…We are currently in our longest stretch without rain (while open), for the last 12 months. The entire season last year our longest stretch was 5 days with out rain. 10 days, no rain, in April/May. Awesome.

Struggling with liners and compacted sand?!? So were we until we switch to the stainless steel anchor rings from Amazon. They skip over staples and liners while breaking up the compaction from rains and winter settling. Here’s the first pass of the year in this bunker.

Have a look at this reduction of shade on the green (where the black mats are). Winter shade can be devastating to greens, especially those in a north facing pocket. Snow is reduced to a liquid during warm days and refrozen during the night, which can create sheets of ice.
