As we come to the end of another busy year of fish surveys, incident response, enforcement patrols, fishery advice visits and fish stockings to name but a few, we wish everyone - especially our followers, anglers and partners - a very Merry #Christmas and a Happy New Year🎅 🐟

Non-native fish species like topmouth gudgeon can pose a serious threat to the environment, as can other non-native fish species, which is why we have Regulations on what fish can be stocked and kept in #fisheries. Any finds of non-native fish can be reported to us on 0800 807060

This weekend, the Environment Agency assisted the Exeter & District Angling Association to deploy fyke nets into Exeter canal, as part of a project to sample fish communities. A good excuse to splash about in a boat 🚤🐟

We have attended a fishery is Wiltshire today, after an angling club reported dead #fish and thousands more gasping at the surface. Very low dissolved oxygen levels were found, so we’ve deployed emergency aeration - we’ll be deploying more tomorrow. Rod licence funds in action

After receiving reports via our Incident Hotline (0800 807060) of illegal netting taking place in Dorset, our officers quickly responded and have seized this net to ensure it doesn’t pose a risk to fish or other wildlife. Please give us a call if you spot any illegal fishing 📞

It’s great that dissolved oxygen has returned to good levels at the fishery we deployed aerators to in Wiltshire last week. Great team work with the angling club and Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council to prevent further fish deaths. Our aerators have been thoroughly cleaned ready for the next incident 🐟

We have responded to two fish in distress incidents today, caused by low dissolved oxygen. One fishery had a lot of large carp struggling at the surface and some #eels too. Aeration units deployed to save the #fish and we’ll be back to both sites again tomorrow 📞 0800 807060

We often get asked how funds from Environment Agency rod licences are spent and reinvested back into angling and the environment. Our annual published report below gives the details:

We’re currently attending various #fisheries incidents, mostly due to dissolved oxygen issues. We’ve deployed our aeration units and we’re continuing to monitor the situation. Thankfully, we’ve prevented significant mortalities 🤞🏻This emergency equipment is funded by #rodlicences
