I don't think I've seen this before. #LongCovid symptoms are more severe upon the third and fourth infection. Just look at fatigue and memory decline. 😭 thelancet.com/journals/lanwp…

“Matthew Fitzgerald, a 28-year-old former engineer at Tesla, described his #LongCovid impairment during a clinic visit: ‘I’m a shell of myself. My physical issues aren’t half as bad as my brain problems. You can say brain fog, but that doesn’t come close to doing it justice.’”

"There is now ample evidence that both older and younger people with #LongCovid and other infection-associated chronic conditions are at risk of developing #Alzheimers disease and related dementias (ADRD)." nature.com/articles/d4158…

"Vast resources will be needed to untangle how SARS-CoV-2 infection causes #LongCovid and how it might be prevented and treated. This line of research could have major implications for autoimmune diseases, in general, and neuro-inflammatory conditions, in particular."

1/Do radiologists sound like they are speaking a different language when they talk about MRI? T1 shortening what? T2 prolongation who? Here’s a translation w/an introductory thread to MRI.

Among the cognitive difficulties we see in #LongCovid, processing speed deficits rise to the top - problems finding words, responding to questions quickly, reading social cues, making decisions rapidly. Processing speed problems can be hugely impairing, and, for many, they are.

We are excited to announce an $800,000 donation to Mount Sinai to support a clinical trial of the drug rapamycin in patients with long COVID. The trial will be conducted at CoRE: a clinic directed by Dr. David Putrino and PolyBio's Dr. Amy Proal: polybio.org/polybio-suppor…

I am so motivated to move this new trial forward with Putrino Lab! Especially because immune parameters in participants will be measured by our amazing collaborator Prof. Akiko Iwasaki. That analysis will help clarify rapamycin’s mechanism of actions when taken in a low dose

Many individuals with #POTS are often misdiagnosed as having anxiety or panic disorder. Read the study finding that POTS patients are no more likely to have anxiety than the general population: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC27…

Lots of attention on cortisol in #LongCovid lately. Here are results from a pilot project in the UC San Francisco #LIINC cohort. Similar levels between LC and recovered, but morning dynamics appear to differ, esp. in those with post-COVID ME/CFS. Detailed follow up project ongoing.

This is going viral because everyone feels this way — this is not hyperbolic “everyone has #LongCovid” — but we need to quickly wake up to the reality that the amount of people going through it, but don’t know what it is — is actually quite enormous.

Our new Viewpoint is out! We draw from treatment strategies in HIV, Hep C & other infections, to detail key considerations for #LongCovid clinical trials targeting persistent #SARS-CoV-2. These include combination trials of drugs that target both the virus and the immune system:

Proud to have been a part of this PolyBio effort to describe the path forward for #LongCOVID trials targeting SARS-CoV-2 persistence. We need a robust biomarker development program and to launch more trials to rigorously test treatments that target these pathways now.

I have spent the past 5 years discovery, digesting, and disseminating the vast research about #delirium. I’ve done 191 podcast episodes dedicated to this topic. Here’s how to most effectively teach about delirium: Let survivors do the talking.
