[#DataProtection] In the lead-up to #DataPrivacyDay, 28 January, we are proud to launch a major expansion of #DataProtectionAfrica, our open-access portal on data protection on the continent! #DataPrivacyWeek #DPD2023 #Africa dataprotection.africa

dataprotection.africa maps out the state of data protection regulation across 55 African states, and evaluates the key features of each legal framework.

The data tells an important story of progress on the continent, as a growing number of African countries enact laws to protect against the abuse of personal data. At least 33 African countries now have a #dataprotection law in place, and 5 have draft bills in process.

But there is much still to do: 40% of African states do not yet have a law, and many existing laws face implementation challenges. We hope dataprotection.africa can inform the research, activism, and public participation needed for the work ahead!
