As a NWS Forecaster for 30+ years, I can, without question, state that our office (and every NWS office) does not have old computers with green screens. It's a disgrace that the leader of the Department of Commerce has this idea about the NWS.

JUST IN: Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations have peaked for the year at 430.5 ppm.📈 This is 3.6 ppm higher than last year and the second largest May-May increase in the 67-year Mauna Loa record. In 2023, the CO2 peaked at 424 ppm. 🔗: gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/

There are rumors swirling regarding potential for an extreme heatwave in Southern California & broader Southwest in mid-Jun. Why? Some recent operational (single-member) runs of a specific weather model have indeed indicated extreme/record heat in that window. HOWEVER... #CAwx

HOWEVER...for now, these single-iteration predictive model runs remain substantial outliers in broader distribution of mid-Jun predictions from full ensemble! There may well be major heat on horizon, but for now record heat remains only modest possibility (but stay tuned!). #CAwx

Meanwhile, in shorter term, there is much higher confidence in a major heatwave across the Pacific Northwest interior and Great Basin (extending into interior NorCal) next week (Jun ~8-10). A significant uptick in fire activity is possible during this period. #CAwx #ORwx #WAwx
