Others do a good job, but on some tracks his own version seems more personal. More a feeling than tangible. That connection happens differently for each of us though.

Waylon Jennings Songs Bobby Bare has to be up there. He never used it for marketing, but he recorded with his own band before outlaw was a thing, before Willie or Waylon. And it was Bobby who got Waylon signed to RCA.
