This wonderful hidden gem sits inside Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park, created in 1875 by Shropshire Horticultural society. This weekend, inside the same Park will be the world’s longest running flower show - the 136th #ShrewsburyFlowerShow with over 60,000 visitors. Highly recommend.

A simple scatter of seeds…. then 12 weeks later, this colourful carpet !

It’s quite magical to think a sprinkling of such tiny seeds can create this wonderful colourful chaos. All on their own - with just sun and water.

It’s amazing to think how tiny seeds, with a little water and sunshine, can change into this just 10 weeks later.

No dig. No mow. But a packet of seeds and it all becomes wildly chaotic.

We have not been able to cut the grass the last 3 weeks. But look what has happened!! There’s a hum of bees everywhere. We could get use to this!

It’s no wonder cornflowers often appear in paintings. Not only are the beautiful in a range of colours, they have a high bee nectar count, as well as being edible for dyes and food colourings. Rich in anti-oxidants a single plant can give 800 seeds. A ratio of 1:800 is not bad!

A lovely day preparing the soil to welcome back these wildly colourful pop-ups again.
