I said what I said. Great work by BBC Sport to map out flights ✈️ in pro football over the last two months. An additional #hottake: - Flying is more comfy & fancy, but there's no good argument that it's better for performance. Not when ground transport options only add 2-3hrs

Leading question in light of the latest IPCC report released this week; are we doing enough? Guess there are not just (inter)national governments that need to reconsider their strategies and efforts shortly.. bbc.com/sport/football…

Structural change is required and #football fans need to see such changes happening. Telling us that #sustainability is a concern and acting against it week after week (not only) risks people turning away in anger/remaining inactive. Start taking this seriously and act on it!

The #GreenFootballWeekend impact report is out. In addition to many lessons learned, our findings tie in with existing academic & practical knowledge. They also prove that more can & must be done in football than relying on offsets and projects prioritising donations > action.

1. Global warming will continue until we reach net-zero. 2. The climate consequences will keep getting worse until we reach net-zero. 3. After reaching net-zero we will have to live and suffer in a warmer world for generations. Do we act now or delay further?

This week's ISSA conference in Ottawa added new perspectives from many great scholars. I also got the privilege to present the first article in my thesis on ‘Regenerating the pitch: Contesting environmental discourses in football'. Next up: Montreal -Toronto - Vancouver 📷

MAJOR UPDATE: All planetary boundaries are assessed, and six are crossed. For the first time ever, scientists have quantified all nine planetary boundaries. Six of them are already transgressed and we are increasing pressure on the others. Read more: buff.ly/45Ps1QG

Should someone tell UEFA that you don't need to artificially increase greenhouse gas emissions to provide clubs with and ask them to use a carbon calculator? Dave Lockwood & Matt Hickson on #football’s increasing impact on the #climate: bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

Climate strike week 278. The final outcome of #COP28 is not a “historic win”, it is yet another example of extremely vague and watered down texts full of loopholes that in no way is even close to being sufficient for staying within the 1,5° limit and ensure climate justice. 1/3🧵

The irony around the order selection of the presentations on climate responsibility in sports (specifically events) is not lost here... #ptg2024
