WVSU students Timothy Sanford, Ahmad Zaman, Zimren Dixon, Alexander Bailey and Clark Wells spent their summer as part of an innovative pilot program designed by the Department of Energy. Of the 24 students chosen for the first cohort of the program five were from WVSU. Go State!

The university will host a Katherine Johnson Day Observance on Monday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m. at the site of her statue on campus. Aug. 26 was Johnson's birthday and the day has previously been declared Katherine Johnson Day in West Virginia by the state Legislature. Go State!

Today, the university honored the life and legacy of Katherine Johnson on what would have been her 106th birthday. Johnson, a West Virginia native and WVSU alumna, was a trailblazer for women in STEM fields. She was recognized for her work with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Dean Harrison Herbert Ferrell, Jr. was born on this day in 1900. Known simply as “the Dean” to generations of State students, he served the university for 42 years from 1928-1970. The administration building was named in his honor in 1980. #wvsu #hbcu

Good luck to the Yellow Jackets women’s volleyball team as they travel to Texas to open the 2024 season competing in the BritKare Lady Buff Classic starting on Thursday. Go State!

The 2024 football season kicks off tonight when the Yellow Jackets travel to North Carolina to face Barton College in the season opener. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next Thursday, Sept. 12, at 6 p.m. for the home opener at Lakin-Ray Field. Go State!
