In my 30yrs+ in weight management those who fail to lose/maintain weight generally fall into 1 of 2 camps. 1. Follow an unsustainable/restrictive dietary regime. 2. Eat when they're not physically hungry. Behavioral modification & a high satiety diet can overcome these barriers.

Daily energy 'needs' is abstract & can be totally disregarded if you're overweight/obese. You already have considerable excess energy (fat) stores at your disposal. What you do need are sufficient nutrients & enough food to satisfy your hunger. That's all! health.clevelandclinic.org/how-many-calor…

Today:-"What sugar substitute do you recommend?" I'd adviseđź”˝the amount of sucrose you consume & using natural sources of sugar in that offer other nutrients in recipes (e.g. honey/apple sauce etc.) Artificial sweeteners made aid weight loss but may present other health risks.

"I'm trying to lose weight and eat healthily. Why do I feel so hungry all the time? What can I do about it?" Eat foods that are more effective at controlling/mitigating hunger (relative to energy/SPC)! abc.net.au/news/2023-12-1… via ABC Australia

Counting calories is not a productive or effective weight loss strategy. It's better to measure, Protein: aim for at least 1g/kg of BW/day Fibre: aim for 30g/day Meal energy density (kcal/g): ideally only eat those <1.5. Avoid all meals 4 or more or snap your food on Hava !

I wouldn't advise vitamin/mineral supplements unless there's a nutritional deficiency. You might just be better spending your money on creatine with it's potential physical & cognitive health benefits. Full dietary analysis is always recommended first. healthline.com/nutrition/10-b…

The NHS still promotes calorie counting & generic calorie intakes for weight loss (M: 1900kcal & W: 1400kcal). This is like telling people to only spend a certain amount/day to save money. It totally ignores considerable individual variability. IMO this really isn't helpful!

Is fibre the "natural antidote to glucose"? Well it does a pretty good job! Eating plenty of fibre can not only help with weight management by increasing satiety, it can also improve insulin sensitivity by blunting the glucose response. Aim for 30g a day. x.com/i/grok/share/G…

Don't judge your dieting success over the first few weeks. Most approaches, inc. faddish diets can be effective over this time frame. Results should be gauged over 12+ months & if your strategy does not account for metabolic adaption, it is going to fail! health.osu.edu/wellness/exerc…

It's time! I'm pretty sure Stephan J. Guyenet 'The Hungry Brain' will further reinforce my understanding (and subsequent constant preaching) that increased hunger is the nemesis of sustainable weight loss. Hence why a high satiety diet is critically important.
