Wonderful inter-lab retreat in the Pyrenees! Sharing and planning research with colleagues with common interests in #butterflymigration: Isotope and movement ecology, population dynamics, evolutionary genomics, and comparative phylogenetics. Research is even better with friends!

Our newest review published in Insect Conservation and Diversity is showing how genomics can be used in butterfly/insect conservation 🐛🦋and what we need to do to make it real. In today's nature, a study shows that remote teams produce fewer breakthroughs! Disruptive science is more likely to come from groups working in close collaboration. 'Night science' discussions may require the kind of energy that's communicated in person. nature.com/articles/s4158…

How dot-maps can be deceiving. On the left a 5km grid of the Grizzled Skipper (Pyrgus malvae) in NL. In reality many of its populations are very small (right map), some less than a hectare and barely visible. And the right map is actually too positive, as the period is longer.
