Thanks to the decline in cholera cases, Ministry of HealthZW w/World Health Organization (WHO) support & Health Resilience Fund funding has begun decommissioning cholera treatment centres. The exercise allows redeployment of health workers to areas with ongoing need & resource reallocation for preparedness in potential hotspots.
In a major boost to Zimbabwe’s cholera fight, Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe via World Health Organization (WHO) donated a $44,000 consignment of cholera supplies to Ministry of HealthZW. The donation includes oral rehydration salts, water purification tablets, antibiotics & essential medical kits for diverse healthcare levels.
WHO Zimbabwe Rep Dr. Desta Tiruneh stressed the ongoing importance of the donation despite the outbreak's end. “Cholera risks remain,” he said. We must address underlying issues like access to safe water & sanitation, with targeted investments in high-risk communities.”
Ministry of HealthZW Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said “The Government of Zimbabwe is dedicated to improving our health infrastructure and ensuring prompt and effective responses to cholera outbreaks. This donation reinforces our efforts to manage and control cholera more effectively.”
