Wild mice have profound impacts on Australia (think mouse plague!). Wei-Shan (Vivi) Chang shares with us all the newly described viruses in Australian wild mice, including orbiviruses, laying the groundwork to reveal novel pathogens. #MicroSeq2023

Maria Jenckel walks us through the impact of rabbits in Australia, and the search for a biocontrol agent. This effort reveals a novel hepacivirus in Cottontail rabbits, which is genetically diverse, with 2 lineages. #MicroSeq2023

This study has recently gone viral, with people saying that it shows that nearly 20% of highly vaccinated people get Long COVID I don't think it's reasonable to draw these conclusions based on this research. Let's talk about bias 1/n

This will get bugger-all attention, because it's 'just bees'... But it should have everyone ropeable. We live on an island. We knew about the impact of Varroa. We have a biosecurity apparatus. And it failed. Miserably. We now have a new, endemic pest abc.net.au/news/2023-09-2…

I keep reading papers that misuse model selection by AIC. If you add a parameter to a linear model and the fit doesn't improve at all, the more complex model will be 2 AIC units higher - ergo being within 2 AIC of a simpler model is evidence of nothing. In the reverse case, /1

The sensitivity of 10 commercially available rapid antigen tests (RATs) against Delta and Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variants depends on the comparator used during analysis (e.g., PCR cycle threshold vs. quantitative antigen concentration). #JClinMicro: asm.social/1u3
