On Trivia Tues we talked about Gary Dowling & his ability to strike out hitters. Behind every good pitcher is a great battery mate. How about Gary’s catcher, Mark Smith, in 1985. In addition to acquiring a sore hand, he also set the school record for put outs with 186.

In the late 90’s, it was Garrett Damman’s turn behind the dish. A three year starter from 96-98, he caught over 39% of those trying to steal. Offensively you will find his name in most categories. He earned NWOAL honors all three years he played varsity.

Happy Easter everyone! When saying prayers today let’s continue to pray for those battling the virus, including former players Rusty Carr and Matt Brown. And also pray for the safety of all the doctors, nurses and other essential employees out there helping to combat it.

You can’t talk catcher without mentioning Jack Wade. Wade was a 4 yr starter for the Vikings. Offensively he holds season records for 2B (13) and HR (7). Defensively he threw out 44% attempting to steal. He also holds the record for most runners thrown out in a game w/ 4.

We finish our feature on Viking catchers with Kyle Kern-Blystone. The '13 grad was a 3 yr starter. In 2012 he won the NWOAL batting title (.479 avg.). His senior yr Kyle had 38 hits and set single season records for triples (7) and caught 50% (15-30) of those attempting to steal.

You can’t talk 2013 w/out Dylan Henricks. He was a 3 yr starter on the IF. In '13 he had 35 hits, hit .427 & scored 33 runs on his way to 1st Team NWOAL. Younger brother Mason, a senior this year, would be a 4 yr starter this spring. Last year he hit .339 & made 2nd Team NWOAL.
