I have a confession to make -- when I was a student myself, I had a pet mammoth and hated #spectroscopy. BTW, only one of those things is true. Nowadays, I try my best to show to my students the beauty and power that comes with spectroscopic techniques in #organicchemistry.

I absolutely hate teaching #organicchemistry nomenclature. Not b/c it’s hard, it’s not. Not b/c it’s boring, even though it is. But b/c most instructors and textbooks teach outdated rules. Case in point: give the IUPAC name to these two compounds. No cheating & using chemdraw!
