If House Republicans are concerned that states are not processing SNAP applications within federal timelines, might I suggest that their proposal to slash the federal funding states use to pay the people processing those SNAP applications would be…counterproductive.

Waivers of SNAP's work requirement are vital because many unemployed workers need more than the 3-month limit to find a new job, especially when the economy is weaker. But even when the unemployment rate is <5%, 1 in 3 unemployed workers need 15 weeks or longer to find work.

Republicans are so out of touch they make Marie Antoinette look down-to-Earth. They’re advancing a shameful, cruel bill that steals food from working families to give tax breaks to billionaires. We won’t stand by while they punish the poor to reward the rich. Watch my remarks ⬇️

The Republican-proposed SNAP cut would be the largest rollback of an anti-hunger program in our nation’s history. It will take food off the table for families and single moms, force rural grocery stores to close and make our farmers poorer. It’s a hard no from me.

House Rs are pointing to exemptions from SNAP's harsh work requirement for people with disabilities, caregivers, pregnancy, etc. But they're relying on states robustly screening millions of additional people for those exemptions while cutting federal $ to administer SNAP in half.

During today's committee debate on SNAP cuts I spoke about my experience growing up. My mom didn't wake up wanting us to be on food stamps - but that was the assistance we needed to survive.

The SNAP cuts have grown from a more than 20% cut to SNAP to a roughly 30% cut to SNAP. The biggest cut to food assistance in history is just getting bigger.

42 million Americans depend on SNAP to afford groceries.   Nearly 17 million are kids.   Trump is ready to take food off their plates while accepting a $400M luxury plane for himself.

"Yeah, rich people get the biggest tax cuts, but everyone gets at least a little tax cut" is not the right way to think about a bill that also cuts health care and nutrition assistance from the folks who get the smallest tax cuts: low-income Americans.

House Republicans voted on May 22nd for the largest cuts to food assistance & healthcare in our nation’s history— giving more money to billionaires & wealthy corporations. The ultra-rich will get even richer, while millions in Massachusetts will suffer. #MApoli

Seems like it should be bigger news that CBO said the unprecedented SNAP cuts in the reconciliation bill could cause some states to "possibly leave the program altogether because of increased costs."

.Governor Maura Healey is leading the fight to defend SNAP for 1M+ Massachusetts families. Proposed cuts from Congress would ripple through our communities, affecting children's development, seniors' health, and our state's economic vitality. Read more here⬇️ mass.gov/news/governor-…

Senate Republican leaders released a proposal tonight that would cut or take food assistance away entirely from millions of people, including kids, veterans, workers in low-paying jobs, older adults, and people with disabilities. More here: cbpp.org/blog/tracking-…

Senate Republicans are pushing the same disastrous policies that will slash the food budgets of families with young kids, kick older adults off nutritional assistance, and take food away from hungry people all to fund tax breaks for billionaires. This bill will push people
