Academia has driven me to drink. A glass of wine might not solve the total dung heap of a system that is academic publishing, but it’s certainly helping.

This one took a LOT of effort, was a long time coming and involved an incredible group of people. If you’re interested in healthcare priority setting or HTA, please do take a look. Available open access. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

Can a healthcare priority-setter claim to be acting in a way that’s morally justified if its policy and/or practice are incoherent? We think not. Published today in J. of Medical Ethics , OA. Please read/ share (it’s nice and short!) #healthcare #ethics jme.bmj.com/content/early/…

If continuity of care was a drug with the same benefits and the NHS refused to provide it, there would be an outcry. But policymakers just treat it as an optional extra that never gets prioritised. Why won’t they learn? Wilful blindness? Ignorance? There’s really no excuse now.

Is NICE’s approach to healthcare priority setting morally justified? A complicated question but Mike DiStefano and I have used a novel systematic approach to try and answer it. Empirical bioethics in action. Open access. bmcmedethics.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
