Working with people who believe they can make a difference. Besides work I do know a few things about football, cooking and politics.

The best and strongest ideas don’t need protection against critics . They are the best and strongest as a result of being severely tested and naturally take on board elements that came out of fierce debate. If that is true of ideas, how about our views and opinions?

Often it takes years for decisions to see results. So leaders only looking for short term effects may get applause, but don’t do what their real job is: lead for the sustainable best.

If you want to understand what can happen watch on Netflix ‘The edge of democracy’. A chilling story of a country split in the middle. Unfortunately Brasil is not alone...

We seem to live in a time where people just go for the desired outcome. But the way you get to the outcome is as important as the outcome itself. Respect and inclusion is as much in the how as in the what

Be careful what you wish for!

You have people who focus all their passion and energy on one subject and you have people who need to balance the interest of all subjects in a fair and coherent way. The one is not better than the other, but it is a lot easier to rally passion for an issue than for balance

It is a classical mistake: reducing budgets to deal with customers complaints. If anything just compare the costs of acquiring a new customer versus the cost of turning a complaining customer into a happy one. Than look to the multiplier of their friends and family. A no brainer

Sometimes you read a book that changes your perspectives. Try ‘The English Job ‘from former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. Why Iran mistrust the British and the West. Amazingly honest and insightful. Beautiful written. Absolutely relevant today.

Leaders don’t just initiate change, that is the easy part, they also have to understand and champion change that comes from within and the outside. ‘Not invented here’ should have no space at the top, especially with change

When the bosses from companies like Google en Microsoft encourage governments to regulate the principles of using AI , they are making a huge contribution to a global and well informed debate . AI will change the world, perhaps a good idea to determine how.

Insightful comment from a young entrepreneur: diversity is not just the right thing to do, it is mandatory to get better results. The more you make it a ‘ do good’ issue, the lesser you look at the facts: diverse teams perform better

It remains interesting that many leaders are more inclined to listen to what people say they agree with, than learning from those who argue differently. Confirmation may be comforting, it doesn’t always inspire out of the box thinking. It pays to be challenged

Does RCEP sounds familiar? Not yet? Well, it will. It is world largest free trade agreement and it is just signed in Hanoi. It involves China, Japan, Australia and 15 others in Asia. They may not agree on a lot, but they understand free trade.

De ‘strijd om het binnenhof’ is meer dan een politieke documentaire, het is een proeve van de ontwikkelingen van Nederland. Ontdaan van alle politiek met een kleine p, geeft het een beeld van onze politieke ontwikkeling. Heel knap
