Today, on the anniversary of the Zong's arrival in Black River, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, I remember the 122 captured Africans, including children, pushed overboard and drowned by the crew; and the 10 men who jumped, rather than be pushed.

We have entered the UN's Second International Decade for People of African Descent.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Let's recommit ourselves as a global community to truly eliminate this scourge. We seem to be going backwards.
