At this time of year Allium ursinum, also known as ramsons or wild garlic, covers the woodland floor like a blanket of snow. The name 'ramson' comes from Danish 'ramse' and 'ram' meaning 'rank', so called from its strong odour and the 'rank' flavour it gives butter. #wildflowers

We’ve been fortunate to be in Venice for St Mark’s Day. Stalls sell red roses. In the morning you see men carrying roses. Later you see women carrying them. It’s beautiful.

Scandinavian #folklore tells that each year the rainbow goddess Iris accompanies Spring and Summer painting the Earth with colour. One year when they reached the last plants, they only had purple and white left. They splashed it over & thus created the first Lilac blooms. #nature
