*What more can neuromorphic computing learn from neuroscience?* We were asked to write an opinion piece for the journal Neuron and took the opportunity to propose some questions to the neuroscience community: arxiv.org/abs/2310.18335 1/4

improved version of our MAPSI system (published last year) will be available commercially soon. activate any neuron within the field of view in freely moving animals, and apply any spatiotemporal pattern of photostimulation during calcium imaging. nature.com/articles/s4155…

Some good news is coming soon (but still embargoed) - but that means I'm looking for folks to work on a couple new projects. I'm looking for postdocs to push the boundaries of Holographic Optogenetics to understand interactions related to movement. oldenburglab.com/positions

So thrilled that our paper on crystallization of working memory representations by practice is now published in Nature! Kudos to Arash Bellafard who with the Vaziri Lab imaged over 73K M2 neurons simultaneously during WM task performance and tracked neurons over days.

I hope people read this and fully understand what it says about the original paper and its support for the conclusions stated in the title. eLife - the journal: Comment on 'Accumbens cholinergic interneurons dynamically promote dopamine release and enable motivation' doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…

Fortunately for me, my students still don't know that Thorlabs' packages come with treats 😁. Whoever thought about it: Kudos, best PR marketing ever!

The International Brain Laboratory are writing a manuscript on reproducibility. We propose voluntary standards for #Neuropixels recordings & want to call the standards RIGOR: Recording Inclusion metrics and Guidelines for Optimal Reproducibility. Is this a weird name? What would be better?

I think the game theory is pretty clear: collective intelligence goes up the more you encourage error correction and admitting you are wrong but there are great rewards to individuals who never admit mistakes even as they lead their tribe over a cliff.

AI can be used to make convincing looking fake data. There is no way we can distinguish real from fake anymore. It is safe to assume that genAI has already resulted in many fake papers. Scientific publishing is not prepared for this.

With colleagues at ALBA Network, I'm running an international climate survey for #LGBTQIA+ people in #neuroscience (including #psychology, #psychiatry, etc). It takes 10-20 min & you can enter a drawing for gift cards. Please repost & share w/colleagues. tinyurl.com/LGBTNeuro

This movie is top 5 favourites I've taken: many think of receptors as stagnant entities at the cell membrane. In fact, they are dynamically transported within the cell. Here we simultaneously image 5 receptor types endogenously using multispectral light sheet and protein binders!
