Going out and arresting way more people is easy enough. But the president and Senate have consistently failed to fill vacant judge seats in D.C. Superior Court, creating significant backlogs. It’s way less sexy than rolling out the National Guard, but hugely consequential.

The issues with the new rink at Fort Dupont are now big enough that the non-profit that has run it for 29 years says it won't operate the rink for the next year, raising questions over the fate of long-running programs for kids: 51st.news/fort-dupont-ic…

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice. Except it doesn’t bend on its own—it bends because we pull it in the direction of justice. What keeps me hopeful during times like these is being surrounded by people who are doing just that.

👀 It looks like Phil Mendelson has scheduled a roundtable next week to dig into Mayor Muriel Bowser's recent request to move $90 million around in the budget to cover overspending by a number of city agencies. Overspending has recently become a big concern for Mendelson.

Confirmed: Next Tuesday the D.C. Council will consider a bill to decouple some of the local tax code from the federal one, in response to the GOP tax bill passed earlier this year. So, tips and OT pay will remain taxable, standard deduction for D.C. taxes won't change, etc.
