This is my last #Holst150 post on this platform. My project to listen to all his music in his anniversary year continues on Bluesky, so if you've enjoyed exploring Holst with me you can find me at The Symphonist.bsky.social. I hope to see you there.

We are several weeks into a Labour government but still have the absurdity of 1st Class compartments on our railway services. This is antiquated and unnecessary. Obviously, the carriages can’t be removed but they should be designated as standard for all. Simple change.

I see John Tinniswood, - the oldest man in the world - passed away two days ago. RIP. He was outside the top 50 of all time, though pretty close to it. But, now he is gone, only two of the oldest 100 men remain alive. Increasing absolute lifespan does not appear to be occurring.

Acclaimed as a concerto soloist, chamber musician and jazz artist, Julian Bliss has been praised by The Times for his ‘astonishing technique’, with the Birmingham Post writing of his ‘assured’ performance of the Lindberg concerto: ‘Gloopy microtones, comedic effects? No problem.’

Signal failure and a points failure. We endure frequent planned delays at weekends to allow the infrastructure to be maintained, yet excessively often it breaks down. This suggests that the maintenance being performed is not fit for purpose. The passenger suffers!
