Today at the Radford Public Library some of our graduate students showed off insects and other arthropods to very excited kids! 🕷🦂📖 They got to learn about beetles, grasshoppers, scorpions, spiders, aquatic insects and more. Thank you to the library for inviting us!

On Friday afternoon last week the Entomology Department and their friends and family enjoyed our annual spring cookout, complete with games, good weather, and great food! 🌭🥗🏐 Thank you to our Department Head and Grillmaster Dr. Tim Kring for putting on the event every year!

Earlier today to celebrate the newly designated Virginia Tech Bee Day, the Virginia Tech Bee Campus Standing Committee and student volunteers expanded the Hillcrest Pollinator Garden behind Hillcrest Hall, and hung bee hotels around campus to encourage pollinator growth at VT! 🐝

We had our annual Entomology Spring Picnic, and we had a great turnout! 🌭 In addition to members of our department we also had alumni, family, friends, and past employees join us for a potluck cookout, yard games, and several awesome volleyball matches. 🏐

This week our department partnered with the Virginia Department of Forestry to host the 9th Annual Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Program Managers Meeting here at Virginia Tech. 🌲 It was a productive, educational, and fun meeting. We are looking forward to doing it again next year! 😁

This weekend we held our annual Hokie BugCamp at Heritage Park in Blacksburg! 🐞 This year we had a total of 117 campers and their parents join us over three sessions. The campers had a blast exploring the park, bug hunting, and learning tons of cool things about entomology.

Congrats to two of our students who won awards at the Southern Forest Insect Work Conference! 🎊 Carrie Preston earned an award for outstanding contributions to forest entomology by a graduate student, and Tim Shively won an award for an outstanding Ph.D. research presentation!

Every year our new Entomology graduate students and two of our professors pile into a van and tour across Virginia for a few days. 🚐 The students had a blast and learned a lot about our state! On behalf of everyone in the Entomology Department, welcome to Virginia Tech!
