Congratulations to Dr. Tom Kuhar, who received the Eastern Branch Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management from the Entomological Society of America ๐ŸŽŠ He was unable to receive the award in person, but students and Alumni from his lab were able to receive the award on his behalf! ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ…

Today at the Radford Public Library some of our graduate students showed off insects and other arthropods to very excited kids! ๐Ÿ•ท๐Ÿฆ‚๐Ÿ“– They got to learn about beetles, grasshoppers, scorpions, spiders, aquatic insects and more. Thank you to the library for inviting us!

Earlier today to celebrate the newly designated Virginia Tech Bee Day, the Virginia Tech Bee Campus Standing Committee and student volunteers expanded the Hillcrest Pollinator Garden behind Hillcrest Hall, and hung bee hotels around campus to encourage pollinator growth at VT! ๐Ÿ

We had our annual Entomology Spring Picnic, and we had a great turnout! ๐ŸŒญ In addition to members of our department we also had alumni, family, friends, and past employees join us for a potluck cookout, yard games, and several awesome volleyball matches. ๐Ÿ

This week our department partnered with the Virginia Department of Forestry to host the 9th Annual Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Program Managers Meeting here at Virginia Tech. ๐ŸŒฒ It was a productive, educational, and fun meeting. We are looking forward to doing it again next year! ๐Ÿ˜

This weekend we held our annual Hokie BugCamp at Heritage Park in Blacksburg! ๐Ÿž This year we had a total of 117 campers and their parents join us over three sessions. The campers had a blast exploring the park, bug hunting, and learning tons of cool things about entomology.
