I'm a fairly low-tech editor, but god bless (Claire) Cherry Edits for introducing me to PerfectIt. No more trying to manually assess inconsistent spelling, capitalisation, hyphenation, etc. Highly recommend for writers who want to keep an eye on their own consistency!

One of the things I love about editing is you often learn some very interesting things. Best fact of the day: only five women have been killed as witches in Wales. Thank you GB Williams !

I love my local cafe, but *something* I eat there makes me really ill. I used to think it was the whipped cream on the hot chocolate, but ill without having that today. I'd think I was lactose intolerant but I can inhale a pizza no problems 🤔

When I started reading The September House I didn't know it would be about family trauma. While I try to meditate two halves of my family talking to each other about their family trauma. It is proving to be a more stressful read than I anticipated.

Any of my contacts running a small/indie press and willing to donate some books for book bags at Fantasycon? We'd love to put some work in the hands of attendees (400+ spec fic fans based in the UK!)...

I'm away at an Charlie at Urban Writers' Retreat retreat this week, writing my article on clones and motherhood for Revista Hélice and my monograph proposal. 6,700 words down this morning, so having a well-deserved chill with a good book!

Today I'm writing my book proposal. I have never written a book proposal before. Which means this is very scary AND I don't know how long it's going to take. Wish me luck!

Hey aca friends, I'm researching for my monograph proposal. If you teach a course on contemporary gothic or horror, queer gothic, gothic technology, abjection, or hauntology, could you please give me a wave?

Big scary book proposal (almost) done! Plus I now have a really clear idea of what I want to change about my sample chapters and the book as a whole. And it feels like a book and not a thesis!

Five pieces of advice from a very newbie author to other writers: 1. Define what success is for you. 2. Make every chapter a character pursuing a goal. 3. Use specifics, especially in descriptions. 4. Understand the genre canon in which you exist. 5. Don't rush to be published.
