Champagne's CO2/H2O gas mixture expands at supersonic speeds. This creates the infamous sound of champagne and forms a freezing jet, which also cools the drink. The kork is relatively slow only at ~ 70 km/h.

Seismicity in the region of Grindavik 3 years ago. Back then, the same region was already a site of deformation, as our paper suggested. Deformation was from a combined effect of magma intrusion and CO2 ingression.
