This 'Omicron variant' sounds like the common cold.

There is unfortunately a definite spike in new covid cases seen in South Africa due to the omicron strain as seen below but the number of deaths looks to be relatively low. So I guess this is a bit like lots of people crossing a road but no one getting hit by a car?
