Time flies, already into a new year! Happy 2025 folks! Also, we have a new researcher onsite with UVP - Durre Ajam Riaz has started her study on how vervet alarm vocalizations are modified in urban landscapes. SimbithiEcoEstate

Happy New Year from the Urban Vervet Project! Since Simbithi Eco Estate gets crowded over the Holidays we seize this time for some educational work. Very proud if my onsite team teaching residents how to avoid human-wildlife conflicts 🙏🏻 Emma Chen 🐒 (she/her) & Durre!

Last week part of our team attended the Culture Conference in Utrecht and Paige Barnes presented her MSc thesis results on the anthropocentric impact on problem solving skills in urban vervet monkeys. SimbithiEcoEstate

Fully funded PhD position on Hominin Life History Evolution available in my new lab University of Zurich Please retweet! Link: uzh-my.sharepoint.com/my?id=%2Fperso…

We are very happy for Melissa Ardila-Villamizar an UVP Alumni who recently presented the project at ASAB Spring Meeting in Liverpool.

Wind of Change at UVP: We thank Ntaki Senoge from University of Kwzulu Natal for his dedicated 10 months with us. And with a Farewell comes a new Welcome: Camilla Cenni joining us for the upcoming three months in Simbithi SimbithiEcoEstate - Stay tuned!

Incoming Wednesday sofia forss will be on site at SimbithiEcoEstate give the June month's Environmental Talk - come join us!

Happy Friday from team cognition group selfie - with the bold little fella in the back! Camilla Cenni sofia forss & Valeria Simenova. SimbithiEcoEstate

🚨You can now find our latest results in this new Pre-print by Barnes et al. It explains how anthropocentric experiences by vervet monkeys relate to their behavioural flexibility, assessed in a multi-step foraging experiment at SimbithiEcoEstate doi: doi.org/10.1101/2025.0…

Urban animals, like vervet monkeys use their cognitive capacities to solve problems in their urban habitats. In this new paper Lily Johnson-Ulrich & sofia forss discuss if large brained species are pre-adapted with cognitive tool kits to exploit urban niches? rdcu.be/erSPv

On July 4th our close collaborator and guest researcher at Simbithi Camilla Cenni will share her interesting work on urbanized macaques in Bali - come listen to how anthropogenic exposure impacts tool use and innovativeness! SimbithiEcoEstate

Wonderful PhD opportunities with the ✨amazing✨ Ape Behaviour & Ecology Group 🐵

Welcome to the lush green Simbithi to Clementine Serre! Clementine, is a real fieldwork hero, who has just spent 8 months researching meerkats at KalahariResearchCentre with the meerkat cognition project sofia forss and now adds on her expertise by joining the UVP for the rest of the year.

Very pleased to share our latest #publication showing that differences in #innovation may shape finer-scale niche differences between two generalist species: wild #raccoons and #opossums 🦝🧠🧩 Kristy Adaway Link here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
