Delightful Kindle read of the book 'False Allies: Indias Maharajahs in the Age of Ravi Varma' by Manu S Pillai. The density of insights per page with shock value pauses you to think often. A 5 hour long ride to Thiruvananthapuram gave me some uninterrupted time to appreciate it.

While we love him to bits and wish we could keep him, we need to make room for other rescues. And though it breaks our hearts to give him up, Bruno needs a forever home. If you or anyone you know can give him the home he deserves, DM me. He will change your life.

Just finished 'The Ivory Throne' by Manu S Pillai It's a hefty read, but every page is packed with incredible research and masterful storytelling. Hard to believe this was his debut.

Some blame the Manusmriti for caste, some blame the British. But the primary sources tell a weirder story: of traders, artisans and mercenaries wielding it as a political tool during the fall of the Chola Empire.

On one hand, supreme confidence that they'll win 400+ seats; on the other, stooping to freeze bank accounts of party in 30-year-old case (a party that's hopelessly outmatched, is in a shambles, poor leadership, etc). How do political analysts reconcile these two?

3 hours listening to Manu S Pillai talk Indian history on Mukesh Bansal 's Sparx podcast, well spent!
Manu ji, if everyone could intersperse history with this kind of compelling storytelling I bet more of us would be a lot interested and invested in learning (and preserving) it.
