We are honored to announce that our latest case in partnership with Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) is now closed, and SSgt Stevens has been accounted for. He was shot down 23 Dec 44 outside Bastogne #Belgium and MIA for 79 years until our UW–Madison and Universities of Wisconsin (Old) team recovered him. UW State Relations
A painting was created of the last moments of the “Shirley D” on 23 Dec 1944. We believe it was commissioned by a family member of one of the crew, but a copy was purchased and hangs in our offices at UW–Madison Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA)
Today we remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, doubly appropriate to remember Lt. Frank Fazekas, our first archaeological recovery.
