Our Applied #Science students have been learning about testing soil samples! Students welcomed in Sheffield Hallam University Biochemistry department who came & collected soil samples from around the UTC to test. The samples were taken back to SHU to carry out various tests.

Today Y9s have been at Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill, with Rolls-Royce They've been taking a closer look into the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 aero & engaging in a series of real-life experiments based on techniques used in NDT, Maintenance, the Materials Labs, Machining, & Submarines.

We had a great day last week for #ComicRelief! Our student council put on a bake sale and Mr Watkins and Mr Schofield bravely volunteering to go in the stocks, where they had cold sponges thrown at them for a fee. In total we raised over £290, thank you to everyone who donated!

As part of #BritishScienceWeek our students have been looking at kidney donation! Students visited Sheffield Hallam University Biochemistry Labs last Tuesday, they were tasked with deciding who would make a compatible kidney donor for a fictitious patient. #Science

This morning a Year 13 has been dissecting a sheep’s heart! Although it may appear to be a relatively small organ it’s definitely a very important one and interesting for our students to explore in more detail. #Science #Biology #Dissection

Year 9s have been busy making models of animal and plant cells! As part of their #Biology lessons and working scientifically our students have been using plasticine to model animal and plant cells with Mr Jarvis.
