Our photographers use UV light to reveal details and conditions of #USCapitol artwork that cannot be seen under normal light. Original paint (19th c.) will fluoresce brightly; areas that appear darker indicate the use of more modern paints. 🎨 #PreservationMonth

Artist Allyn Cox (born #OTD 1896) created murals in the #USCapitol over two decades from 1952-1972. 🎨 He completed and restored the Frieze of American History, and restored the Apotheosis of Washington. He also designed murals for three 1st-floor corridors in the House wing. 🖼️
