Two weeks ago, the U.S. Naval Academy hosted the Climate and Defense Summit of the Americas. 🌴🌊☀️ USAID's CPS/CMC participation emphasized the critical role of humanitarian response in combating security threats posed by climate change in the Western Hemisphere.

DAA Ro Tucci joined Nonviolent Peaceforce’s Anna Zaros, Cameroonian gender activist Clotilda Andiensa Waah & GW University’ Tahani Yaghshi for a #PeaceCon2024 panel on local women peacebuilders. Tucci shared USAID's localization goals & efforts to make funding more accessible to communities.

Recently, USAID & U.S. Institute of Peace co-hosted Digital Disruption: Unpacking the Power of #WPS, gathering interagency & civil society partners. Experts discussed technology-facilitated gender-based violence (#TFGBV), information manipulation, & their impacts on women’s leadership globally.

#TFGBV is an evolving issue and threat to women’s rights, national security, stability, and democracy around the world. Statistics on TFGBV are concerning, underlining the need to prevent and protect against such attacks. See Economist Intelligence: EIU’s findings below.

#TFGBV is fueled by inequality and weaponized by many. We need new approaches to build a safer digital world for women and girls. Investments in women and girls leading the charge to combat digital harms; multi-stakeholder collaboration; and accountability are just the beginning.
