Spider silk’s toughness, stretch, and adhesion make it perfect for bioengineering. With a $344K U.S. National Science Foundation grant, UMass Lowell’s Prof. Jessica Garb is researching silk proteins to help create stronger materials for products like medical sutures and bulletproof gear. 🕸️🧬#Bioengineering

🎃Happy Halloween from the Lee lab! 👻 Here we are at our spoooooky department retreat last Sunday: a graduated cylinder, both strands of DNA, an unspecified Gryffindor student, Scott Roques as a beatnik, and Wednesday (trying her best not to smile).

The faculty of UMass Lowell Biology celebrate Halloween! I've chosen another Nobel prize-winning innovation for my costume this year: GFP & its jellyfish Aequorea victoria! It's another homage to C. elegans, since it was the first organism genetically engineered to glow with GFP 🪱.
