The actual policy is even worse than it looks (and it is already bad) because even if you break 1k streams you can be demoted back down to non-monetizing if the track fails to meet continuing criteria for qualification throughout the year. Disgusting.

Copyright alone isn't going to protect us from extractive platforms. We need gov't regulation. We need labor protections. We need fair pay for our work as musicians. Yesterday Spotify USA put its new payment scheme into effect, demonetizing all tracks that receive less than 1000 plays a year … 2/3 of my catalog. This is wage theft, straight up. The LMWA is just the start in taking power back from these corporate ghouls. Join us.
