JJ here says “radiata is a damn good tree”. His great grandfather planted the first pines. all the landholders have shares in the forest management enterprise & access to forestry jobs. This load is blowdown from hurricane Adrian and at least 25 years old, & going through china.

Checking out the nicely primed radiata pine near Taupo. That’s some amazing growth and length between nodes.

Out and about ogling those radiata pine on the north island of New Zealand. That kind of growth rally boggles my mind.

Nice but I wish they had talked about site prep. You can’t just plop a seedling into the ground with burnt dead wood everywhere. You need to reduce these fuels and then manage competing vegetation. There’s a whole ecosystem of work that needs to be done. nytimes.com/2024/04/04/hea…
