The jaw-dropping mess of UK higher education is starkly revealed by a series of news stories all on the Times Higher Education website in the last week or so:

HMRC management at Benton Park View in Newcastle have sacked PCS rep Gordon Askew on the grounds of ‘potential’ computer misuse.
Reps from Unite the union: join a union stood in solidarity with PCS reps to show their support for the sacked PCS rep.
