On the first day of our MSc Geophysical Hazards field trip to the Azores, our students visited the Research Institute for Volcanology and Risk Assessment (IVAR) to learn about long-term monitoring and management of hazards across the archipelago. 🌋 EarthSciences UCL

On the second day of our Azores field trip, we learnt about structural controls on volcanism, including the formation and hazards associated with calderas and monogenetic fields. Students also got to have a go presenting in the field. 🌋 EarthSciences UCL

On day 3 of our field trip to the Azores, students learn about landslide hazards and mitigation at Ribeira Quente. 🏔️ EarthSciences UCL

On day 4 of our Azores field trip, students had a go at taking soil CO2 concentration and flux measurements to investigate soil diffuse degassing, which can be a significant hazard on parts of the islands here. EarthSciences UCL

On the final day of our field trip, students carry out a field survey using a laser range finder to investigate hillslope and fluvial processes. 🏔️ EarthSciences UCL
