Man, this platform really shows you the number of people in this country who would become complete tyrants if given an ounce of power

Two points from Carl Sagan's "Baloney Detection Kit" that seem lost in the current moment: Encourage debate on the evidence by knowledgeable proponents of all points of view. Do not confuse expert and authority. “In science there are no authorities; there are experts at most"

Schools really ask "Why do you want to teach at our school?" And then the only information about them online is their school report card and a bunch of articles about their athletic programs.

Lotta folks on this platform want a state of perpetual lockdowns etc, citing the need to protect society Yet they deride people who mention the need to safeguard institutions such as the rule of law—which protects society from arbitrary power—as selfish fools No civic virtue.

Seven weeks of lockdowns. Military patrolling streets. Yet infection rates continue to rise. This is beyond absurd. It’s illogical and it’s tyrannical. At what point will people get fed up with with perpetual cycles of lockdown? My fear is that too many people never will.

Even one life saved is enough to justify whatever Covid restrictions you’d like and anything less is a “death cult” but also leaving tens of thousands of Americans and our allies in Afghanistan isn’t something we can do much about.

Instead of sentencing a young man to jail, a judge in the UK is assigning him Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, etc. Judge says he’ll test him and know whether he actually read. If he didn’t, it’s jail time. Thoughts on classical ed mediation? Jeremy Wayne Tate? shorturl.at/BEIY4

Producing one day’s worth of disposable face masks (current usage rates) means producing about 15K metric tons of CO2. Perspective: The city of Detroit produces about 3.5K metric tons of CO2 per day. Can we please get climate change folks and public health folks to argue?

Just to be clear: the political and public health elite who've enacted endless mandates and restrictions are living their lives normally. They expect you, not their enlightened selves, to adopt a new normal.

Emerson College in Boston has issued a "stay in room directive" for returning students next month -- the same students already required to get "boosted" and tested twice a week. Sounds like fun

I’ve been a long time customer of Turo, and I just received the worst, most pedantic customer service from them this morning.
