Pondered a bit today why AS1 sells five times better than ASTNC and fifty times better than Penny Larceny. Maybe it's the cozy, comfortable game factor? But, like... I kinda don't wanna make cozy games anymore. I want uncomfortable games that challenge and engage our empathy.

I've been pretty much just playing fallout 76 all day today, which is the height of betrayal of indie credibility and live service micro transaction nonsense. And I've been very relaxed and having fun. It's the weekend, deserve a day off from myself.

40 years ago, there was all sorts of fuss and bother about the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy video game license. Read the story for details, but it was pretty crazy and it really felt like Supersoft had acquired the rights under extremely sketchy conditions.

Doing a couple random tasks for the game, but I really need to get back into the groove of writing itself. It's hard to find the vibe when I'm juggling so much other stuff, personal and work and health. I can't lean on that forever.

I haven't checked Twitter all day.

A bit concerned that the writing in the new game is too dense and serious for the audience I built up. It's heavy and weird.

Then again, the loose and casual flowing style of penny larceny didn't exactly sell that game, it flopped hard, so who knows?

Okay. In the end I salvaged the day -- played a LOT of Fo76, but also did some Photoshop work and bashed out a rough draft of a major scene revision for the game. I'm trying not to let this beat me down, even if things don't pan out how I wanted initially.

I managed to literally stand up for an hour so I can do some Photoshop work on the game. Granted it's redoing all of the Photoshop work I did last time on stream because I forgot to do a layer of effects. So not exactly a triumph, but not zero.

So, stream's cancelled today. Again.

I could push my luck but my sore spots are telling me 'do that and it's a coin flip if we get much worse.'

I hate this. I have game dev work to do, I want to build my following, I have to make this happen... and disability's holding me back.
