Home of the 1st Army's Main Hospital in Tunisia 1942-43. The nearby village was home to Christain monks whose seminary was taken over by the Army. The monks also had extensive vineyards and farms. There is a tiny Commonwealth War Graves cemetery there today. #Tunisia81

Just finished reading the official history of Irish Guards in #WW2 #Tunisia. An epic. This is their memorial, now relocated to Tunis but originally erected on Point 212 at 'The Bou'. That battle was a bit like in 'Zulu' - surrounded, hopeless, only just successful. #Tunisia81

Was this the only SOE wartime romance? Charles Ward met Margaret, in Algiers, in 1943 and they subsequently got married. They both served in the SOE. Previously, Charles had been a Sgt in the Irish Brigade in Tunisia. Margaret passed away in 2019, Charles died last month. #RIP

Re-opening of the exhibition - hope it includes the Irish contribution during WW2.

Most battlefields in Tunisia have been fully cleared of WW2 debris and returned to farmland. But some have been built upon - like at 'Banana Ridge' which now has a four lane motorway from Tunis to Beja going right through the middle. Makes exploration a bit awkward! #Tunisia81
