Truly EXCELLENT VIDEO showing how small is the Sicilian channel - Italy really is very close to North Africa, in fact parts of Tunisia are NORTH of parts of Sicily. In 1942/43 it was even narrower for the Axis convoys as they routed through minefield barriers #Tunisia81
Robert Lyman 🇺🇦 During my talk on WW2TV yesterday, someone asked where the Japanese fighter planes that attacked 435 Squadron’s aircraft near Shwebo in January ‘45 would have come from. I’ve no clue and none of the sources I have mention where their base was. Do you know? Thanks.😊
von Arnim's staff car in the UK, captured in Tunisia - only 2 pence per ride! I hope he got to see this photo in his Prisoner of War Camp.... #Tunisia81
Agree with the result WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk - great banter tonight, thanks James Holland Al Murray - DKMS.ORG.UK 🇺🇦
I'm still trying to find the exact location where von Arnim surrendered to the Gurkhas in Tunisia 1943 so I can do a 'Then and Now' pic. It's near the village of St Marie du Zit but I may just have to bring along this pic and show the local farmers. Fingers crossed. #Tunisia81
Looking forward to tonight's WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk livestream - all about War movies!
In support of an 8th Army Brigade attack, in this one small area, the Allies fired 24,000 artillery rounds in 15 hours. That excludes mortar rounds and excludes German artillery and mortars in reply. You can still find shells on the farm land. The attack was defeated. #Tunisia81
Forced labourers having escaped from a German camp in Tunisia, enter British lines. December 1942. Teenagers by the look of them. Thin too. Quite rare to see photos of this subject. #Tunisia81 (IWM NA 275).
Kasserine Pass monument - Djebel Chambi in the background. I have never managed to find out who built this - definitely not the French as it's post independence and it is expensive. It's on the edge of town by the Army barracks, great view of the Pass. Anybody know? #Tunisia81
'Then, a soldier, full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard, jealous in honour, sudden, and quick in quarrel, seeking the bubble reputation even in the cannon's mouth.' #ShakespeareSunday #Tunisia81
